Acrylic Abstract
In every

In a twist of fate, abstract art became a saving grace for DeSpain as
her vision deteriorated, leaving her unable to create traditional
paintings or sculptures. Her world seemed to plunge into darkness
until she crossed paths with gallery owner, James Ratliff, who would
redirect her artistic journey towards abstraction.
Moved by her predicament, James Ratliff, owner of the James Ratliff
Gallery in Hillside Sedona, suggested a novel approach of pouring
paint into acrylic abstract paintings, where colors flowed freely onto
the canvas. DeSpain embraced this technique with newfound zeal,
crafting small abstracts that captivated Ratliff. Encouraging her to
think bigger, he challenged her to work on expansive 38-by-46-inch
canvases, igniting her creative spirit.
